A useful starting point

Several dishes may use the same ingredient in different amounts or forms. A combined list can reduce repeated checking, but adding unlike units or ignoring preparation details can create a misleading total. Keep the source recipes nearby.

Keep it in your kitchen notes

Group identical ingredients, combine compatible quantities and mark the recipe each supports. Preserve distinctions such as fresh, dried or already prepared when they matter. Check what you actually have before buying. Do not assume a substitution is suitable for a person’s allergy or dietary needs; those questions require appropriate specific information. The list organises purchasing rather than certifying compatibility.
