A useful starting point
Fresh produce is not one identical category of handling decisions. FDA guidance discusses purchasing, separation, storage and preparation, including washing produce under running water. Washing can reduce contamination but does not eliminate it.
Keep it in your kitchen notes
Consult the current guidance for the produce and product form involved, including instructions on packaged items. FDA does not recommend soap or household detergents for washing produce. Keep it separate from raw meat and associated utensils as directed. Do not use this short article as assurance that every piece of produce is safe; condition, handling and the actual product remain relevant.
