Scaling Quantities Requires Re-reading the Method

Multiplying ingredients is only part of changing batch size.

A useful starting point

A double quantity can need more than a larger bowl. Pan arrangement, mixing, cooking and cooling may behave differently at another batch size. A simple arithmetic change does not establish a tested method for the larger batch.

Keep it in your kitchen notes

Prefer the recipe author’s guidance for scaling when available. Reassess equipment and the sequence, and retain applicable safety requirements for the food involved. Record the new quantity and any verified method changes. Avoid multiplying cooking time by the same factor as ingredients. If the original method does not support the desired batch, choose a recipe designed for that quantity.
